On the evening of Tuesday, April 13, Manuel Antonio Milla Saldivar, aged 73, reached the end of a valiant battle with prostate cancer. His community mourns the loss of a beloved friend and family member.
Manuel was born on March 30, 1948 in Andacollo, Chile to Juan Luis Milla and Zunilda Ester Saldivar. One of eight siblings, he was a family man from a young age. Manuel had a warm, generous spirit; he lovingly dedicated his time to those around him, buying clothes for his friends and family and getting his siblings dressed for church. He worked hard to save money to buy his parents there first propane stove.
At the age of 22, Manuel immigrated to Washington, DC. He followed in the footsteps of his childhood sweetheart, Betty Nancy Milla Mancilla, who introduced him to his first friends of many friends.
Manuel made friends everywhere he went. He made such a dynamic impact with his magnetic personality. It was that, his magnetic personality that made his group of friends continually grow and grow and grow. Before you knew it he had built a network of friends throughout the world.
Manuel was fiercely faithful to his family and friends. He was quick-witted and respectful. He was someone you could call upon for help. Manuel never judged, just listened and offered words of encouragement.
Manuels home was open to everyone and anyone that wanted to see him, talk to him, laugh with him or to break bread with him.
Manuel was a loyal and faithful husband of 50 years, an amazing father, a great mentor and simply a good human being.
He was our treasure
