Manuel and Marta Tello Happy Camp Slater Fire

Let me start by saying that it is difficult for me to open up and allow people into my life.  This is not the time for pride nor privacy.  I will start with a little background into our family and what is bringing me to this point in our lives.  Our parents Manuel (now 90) and Marta Tello (now 85) immigrated to the United States in 1963 with seven children. Their 8th child was born soon after arriving at Happy Camp.  The ninth child was born in February of 1966 and the 10th in May of 1967.  Our father not only worked in the mill, but he also did side jobs such as doing TV repair and repairing home appliances to support our family.  Fast forward to July 14, 2018, during a family reunion we received a phone call that one of my sisters, the second born, was very ill and in need of medical attention in Mexico, where she lived.  Needless to say, since we were all together at the reunion, we all pitched in and sent her money so that she could get the medical attention she needed.  My sister ultimately lost her battle with the illness on September 9, 2018. This was emotionally and financially draining on our family because she was hospitalized for 44 days without medical insurance.
This brings me to the reason why I am creating this GoFundMe, on September 8 at 8:37 a.m. I was having my morning cup of coffee and reading news on Facebook, as I do daily, and I see that the Slater Fire in Northern California is prompting the Siskiyou County Sheriff to issue an evacuation warning for the residents in the area of Indian Meadows up to the South Fork of Indian Creek, Happy Camp, CA. I of course, called my parents immediately to tell them to prepare to evacuate.   As I am finishing my cup of Coffee, my phone rings and it is my mom calling me back to tell me that the Siskiyou County Sheriff had just called her to tell her to get out.   It was now 9:17 a.m.  This brings me to today, September 12 my parents’ 68th wedding anniversary. The Slater Fire has claimed their home and their lifelong belongings,  I am asking for everyone and anyone to help them overcome their losses and help ease their transition back into their normal lives.  Please share this with your family and friends to help them reach their goal.

Thank you for your time and generosity in their time of need.
