Our little fighter Mantis needs your help! For those of you who don't know: Mantis was found in a box on the side of the road with her brother (who has since passed). They were both emaciated 5 week olds who had no concept of how to eat properly. Mantis was nursed back to health & despite her stunted growth, she is a feisty, spitfire! She loves life, has always fought so hard to live, & is in a loving, forever home. She is 4 months old & weighs 2lb 11oz. Mantis had settled into her new home & was thriving! However, this past weekend, she wasn't feeling. She seemed more tired than usual and was shaky (while in her foster home, we discovered that means fever). Her mama took her to the vet where it was discovered she had a 105 degree fever. She was given an antibiotic shot, a "pain" shot, & oral medication to be given at home. Initially, she seemed like she was starting to perk up. This morning, as she began to get her day started she kept losing her balance & falling over. Her mama rushed her back to a different vet who stated the dosage given was FIVE TIMES (5x) higher for her size than she should have been given. She is now hospitalized being closely monitored. They are keeping a close eye on her kidneys & liver, as they are the organs most likely to be damaged from this horrendous medical error. She will likely be hospitalized for around 2 days & will have a barrage of tests, labs, & X-rays to ensure she is recovering. The hospital quoted us around $4,000 (not counting anything additional). Please help us cover her treatment. Her mama just maxed out her credit cards to ensure she gets the absolute best treatment. This is an overwhelming amount for ANYONE to spontaneously cover. Any additional money will be utilized to vet (spay/neuter, & vaccinate) my current fosters. Thank you for your unwavering support & concern. Whether you're able to donate or not, PLEASE keep little Mantis in your thoughts & prayers.
