Manraj's campaign for Mental Rescue Society
My Journey started 3 years ago with 3 simple words "We can help." That was said by my wife on the phone as I sat there in my car by the bridge contemplating to jump off of it and end my life. My wife who is my rock maybe saved my life that day and started my journey to where I am now. Those days looked doom and gloom for me thinking that I could never get passed the stigma of Depression and Anxiety. I would have missed out my kids growing up, my even stronger bond with my wife. Spending time with my family and friends. I got help it started at the Alberta Hospital and then my journey to the Alberta Mental Illness and Addiction center in Edmonton.
Those 3 years were the toughest in my life, but the one thing was that i told my self there is help and I am getting it. I learned a lot about myself as a person. I learned many techniques to deal with it including medicine, thinking, breathing, emotions this all was from the AMIA Center. The psychiatrist and the therapist combined together to lay out a plan to help me cope with depression and anxiety.
Through that process I have got closer to myself mentally, understanding there is a lot more out there in the world. My wife made the journey and process easier. Seeing the concern for me by family members and friends made the ride less scary. I am still in the process and the journey and continue to grow myself as a person. The battle with mental Illness is still there, but I have a leg up and continue to fight,
I am turning 38 on May 25th and I thought why not get people to help me raise funds for an organization here in Edmonton that helps people fight the stigma and helps people find the help like the Mental Rescue Society of Edmonton. This society's mission is:
We are a group of like minded individuals bringing light to the shadows of Mental Health
Everyday thousands of people struggle to achieve what they feel is their definition of normal
Together through public campaigns, we increase awareness and support existing programs and services for all individuals and their families concerned with Mental Health
People need the awareness and understand what mental illness is and how to battle them.
My goal for my 38th birthday is to raise $3800 for the Mental Rescue Society of Edmonton
This would be the best birthday gift ever!
