Manos Felices-Equatorial Guinea
Donation protected
Hi I'm Ava and I am an 8th grade student at Gilkey Inetrnational School in Portland, Oregon. I am supporting Manos Felices school for the Deaf in Equatorial Guinea because I am interested in sign languge (and Spanish and French) and hope to volunteer at this school someday. EG is on the west coast of Africa. It is about the size of Connecticut. It's a former Spanish colony (surrounged by French speaking countries) so the main language is Spanish. The sign language is also in Spanish. Noreen Corey started Manos Felices 10 years ago with 6 kids and now she has 48 kids. Before Africa, Noreen ran schools for Deaf in Costa Rica and Honduras. In EG there was no Deaf education before Noreen arrived. There is no speacial ed at all in the country. The main cause of deafness in EG is infectious diseases like measles, meningitis and malaria. I would like to raise money to support the teachers at the school and to sponsor the kids so they can attend the school. When you decide what amount you would like to donate please say how you would like the money to be used: for kids' tuition, teacher's salary (about $100 a month...can you imagine living on $100 a month?) or money to buy food for their lunch. I have known Noreen since I was little and I am so amazed by the work she has done for Deaf in Spanish speaking countries. Thank you for your support! Gracias!!!!
