GOING HOME TO AFRICA

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

I am Emmanuel aka Manny and I was born in Ghana, butmoved to the United States a little over decade ago. I currently live in Chicago. Moving from Africa to the United States was one of the most difficult and challenging decisions I ever made. In particular, it was gut-wrenching leaving my family behind, especially my parents who I love so dearly. However, driven by my ambition and motivation, I knew deep down that moving to the United States was to make a better life for myself and to also help my family back home.

Last year, I graduated from college with a degree in Culinary and Hospitality Management. In fact, that was a major milestone as well as a crowning achievement for me! I aspire to become a personal chef or work with a reputable international hotel in the near future. You might also care to know that for the past several years, I worked in the Hospitality Industry, and I have done a few casual jobs here and there to not only sustain myself, but to also provide financial support for my family back home.

Since moving here to the United States, I've lost several family members, including most recently, my oldest brother, who passed away in May from a major stroke. Due to some difficulties and circumstances beyond my control, I was not able to go back home for his memorial. My mom is 85 years old and recently she’s been in and out of the hospital due to failing health. I haven't seen her in person for more than 10 years and I miss her a lot, so I need to be there to take care of her and make sure she has everything she needs.

For these reasons, I have made the tough decision to move back home to Ghana by the end of September. By moving back home, I will be able to spend quality time with and take care of my mom. This is a quick-moving process due to the urgency of her condition, so I am reaching out and seeking your help in whatever way possible. Any amount and form of monetary contribution would be greatly appreciated. It will help to defray the cost of medical care for my mom, for the shipping of donated clothing and other items that I intend to distribute to the needy in Ghana, and of course the cost of moving between continents and restarting my life in Africa.

While the move will be a major and life changing experience for me, I am very excited to be returning home to my family. However, I will certainly miss my friends, the deep connection and the bonds I formed with those who I have met while living in Chicago. I know that I can’t do this alone, which is why I am looking forward to your financial support and generosity. All of which will be greatly appreciated!

I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time out to read my story. Please consider making a donation. If you ever plan on visiting Ghana, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, I will be more than willing to accommodate, show you around and share some of the rich cultural heritage of what makes Ghana unique among the other countries on the African continent.
