Friends:
Asking for continued healing prayers and support.
We are grateful our Dan is alive. He also has a long road of recovery ahead of him and our family does, too.
Dan will not be able to work for some time and his ability to progress determines this.
Some of you know (and many may not) that Danny was hospitalized in early July. He had been sick for quite a few weeks before, living with symptoms, not realizing the severity of what was happening to his body. Danny was brought to his PCP on July 9th by his wife Maria and they immediately told her to bring him to Beverly ER where he was admitted to the ICU. Danny’s blood oxygen level was at 55, which is near death, and had gained 50 pounds of fluid within the last two months as he had undiagnosed congestive heart failure.
In Beverly Lahey ICU they put Danny on a ventilator and a paralytic (induced coma). They also found that Danny had a blood clot in his left lung, pulmonary hypertension, CHF which resulted in the edema and fluid going into his lungs and heart. The echocardiogram revealed depressed heart function on the right side which was impaired from underlying/undiagnosed lung disease, blood clot and sleep apnea. He also contracted double lower lung pneumonia while at Beverly.
After two days at Beverly and seeing Danny not improving, he was medflighted to Lahey Burlington ICU where he continued to be on a ventilator and an induced coma which paralyzes the muscles so the body can heal. Over the next 14 days we did not get to speak to Danny. We watched in agony and uncertainty with all the machines on him; having fevers, breaking fevers, medicines being changed, tweaked, going into Afib, getting anxious and biting on the tube when they slowly brought him off the vent to see if he could breathe on his own, waiting at the hospital for hours to speak to the doctors who were always very hopeful but realistic, especially on the 2nd weekend where we were not sure he would make it and there was talk of him having a tracheostomy.
We are happy to report that on day 16 Danny had the tube taken out with no trach and was moved to PCU where we were finally able to speak to him and reunite him with Maria and Evan with happy tears.
Danny was in Acute Rehab from Friday, August 2nd, and went home this past Wednesday. He has a long road of recovery and healing ahead of him with learning how to walk again, and basically everything, with PT/OT appointments, many doctor appointments with PCP, Cardiologist, Pulmonologist, etc, costly prescriptions, copays, loss of income. We are asking for continued prayers and support for Danny and his family during this difficult time in their lives.
Please know, Dan is firmly committed to getting healthier and maintains his zest for life!
We are humble, grateful people who truly believe every little bit helps!
LOVE to all.
