Manner's 5th Annual Fundraiser for Stomp
Back in 2017 I had the privilege to race in the Atlantic City 70.3 Ironman Triathlon as part of group fundraiser for Stomp the Monster (a 100% volunteer organization that provides support to people going through cancer treatment who are also struggling financially to pay for day to day basic needs). It was so rewarding that I have made it a major part of my annual training and racing (three times doing the AC 70.3 Ironman Triathlon, and in the season cancelled Covid 2020 doing virtual races joined by my wife Hanna). In those four years we have together raised $19,318 for families truly struggling. Let’s raise some more!
For 2021 I am doing the 5th Annual Manner Stomp Fundraiser as a participant in the 2021 Ironman 70.3 World Championships in St. George, Utah in mid-September. I qualified for this race at the Eagleman Ironman 70.3 in Maryland in June. This “race” feels appropriate to support people struggling physically and financially with cancer treatment because my goal for the race is to finish and survive it. By all accounts this is a brutal course (with elevations and hills way out of my comfort zone) in likely brutal conditions (avg in the low 90’s, and this year has been much hotter than average). There is no hope of a top 10% finish (in fact, I will be thrilled if I am not in the bottom 10%). There is no hope to beat my 5 hr 6min 2019 Atlantic City 70.3 time (will be happy if I finish in under 6 hrs). Finish and survive are my race goals (which I imagine are pretty much the goals for anyone struggling physically and financially with cancer treatment). My upcoming race struggle is a voluntary, joy filled struggle. Please donate to Stomp to help support a family whose struggle is real and involuntary and likely largely void of joy. By doing so you will bring them a bit of hope/joy bring giving them the financial and emotional boost when they need it most.
