Manley's Brain Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Out of nowhere Manley was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor shortly after Thanksgiving of this year (2015). This all started when we started to notice a change in Manley's personality from Happy and Outgoing to Sad and Depressed. Manley just wasn't acting like Manley anymore and many things he was saying just didn't make any sense. We immediately started to see Doctors thinking that maybe he had a stroke. Within a couple of days we were able to get an MRI that clearly showed he had a large tumor in his brain.

After seeking and talking with several surgeons we realized that the situation was dire and we quickly decided on Dr. Martin Lazar at Medical City Hospital in Dallas, Texas. His experience and unique specialties seemed perfect for the problem Manley was facing. Manley was given 2 weeks to live without the surgery. With no other choice, Manley had Brain Surgery on December 9, 2015. The Doctor called the tumor an Anapostic Astrocytoma (a type of GBM). This is a highly aggressive tumor known as the "worst of the worst". It was identified as a Stage 3-4 Cancerous tumor. The Doctor removed the fist-sized tumor and was able to get 80-85% of it out.

When Manley awoke the next day after surgery, he was unable to Speak, Swallow, or Move his right side. Over the next few days, he improved a little at a time slowly regai ning some movement in the right side and finally passing the swallowing test that kept him from having to get a feeding tube installed. On Monday, Dec 14th, Manley was finally able to start speaking again. His words are still coming out all jumbled but he seems like he realizes what he is saying is not what he meant to say. We believe his speech will get better and better as his brain re-makes the interconnections that allow him to regain the things that he was able to do before.

Manley will require rehabilitation and regular Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments which will most likely be givin at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma by Dr. James Battiste. This will be an in-patient stay meaning that he will actually live at the facility for a time.

Not all of the costs associated are currently known as this happened so fast, but the following list provides a breakdown of what we know our costs are that insurance Will NOT Cover.

Out Of Pocket Expenses:

Family Lodging/Living in Dallas - $700

Unknown Costs as of Yet:

I will try to update the specific costs as they are known and I'm sure there are things that we have missed.

I am extremely  thankful for everyone one that has helped me to get through this whole process. Manley and I greatly appreciate all of you who wanted to Donate as the money required for this is just one more stress on an already difficult situation.
