Donation protected
First and foremost, thank you so very much for visiting our GoFundMe.
On April 28th, 2016, our dear uncle Man Ki was in a tragic accident where a piece of heavy dry cleaning equipment fell on top of him. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and as we waited anxiously to hear from the doctors, we as a family prayed for him to regain consciousness. After several heart wrenching hours, we finally heard the words, "he is stable." We sighed a huge breath of relief, but that was short lived once we found out the extent of his injuries.
Our uncle suffered injuries to both the C5 and C6 vertebrae which left him paralyzed from the chest down. He will be required to be in a neck and back brace for several months while the injuries heal. The crushing blow he encountered also caused tons of fluid to build up in his chest cavity, so a chest tube has been placed to help suction the fluids out. He was very fortunate the injuries did not cause complete paralysis, and we are very thankful he still has limited use of his arms and hands.
Prior to this tragic accident, our uncle owned and operated his own dry cleaning equipment sales and repair business. He worked very hard to support and provide a loving home and life for him, his wife, and two young daughters. He is also a devout Christian and spent his life serving others. For those that knew him best, they will tell you that his smile is infectious. Although he is to be faced with a long and arduous journey to recovery, he continues to have his infectious smile and worries about others.
As a self-employed business owner and primary provider for his family, he does not have the benefits of a corporate job. Although his insurance through his loving wife, Huyn Sook, will cover some of the medical costs, it will not cover all of it, and it will not cover the cost of equipping their home to be wheelchair accessible or supplement his income. Therefore, my brother and I are compelled to do whatever it takes to help him and his family. However, we alone cannot fully help them financially, so we are seeking your help and support to help achieve our GoFundMe goal. The money that we are trying to raise is just a fraction of the long-term out of pocket medical care that my uncle and his family will need, but we hope with continued physical therapy, continued research and funding, we will see more progress and an improved quality of life for our uncle.
We kindly request any help that you can provide whether it is through a small donation or raising awareness and calling for more research and funding related to spinal cord injuries. On behalf of our entire family, thank you in advance for your support whether it is through prayer, shares, or donations.
God Bless,
Doug Jung and Sooky Brigance
