May 19-20, 2023, Manistee: Tightlines For Troops

Since 2010, the Manistee, Michigan, Tightlines for Troops Organization has put on an annual fishing tournament for Michigan armed forces veterans. The tournament is free to all veterans, and over the years, the organization has helped thousands of veterans escape their daily lives to compete in a one day adventure on Lake Michigan, Manistee Lake, and the Manistee River, reeling in king salmon, coho, steelhead, lake trout, and brown trout. Throughout the years, on average Tightlines will have 50 charter boat captains take out 4-5 veterans on each boat. The organization also seeks out Manistee River guides, and shore volunteers, who guide our veterans to give them a chance at a catch of a lifetime!

Each year, 250-300 veterans compete in this event, bringing along their significant others and children to celebrate their sacrifice to our great country. Not only is there a fishing tournament, the organization also provides meals, snacks, prizes, transportation, apparel, as well as many other things free of charge.

As you can imagine, this is a very costly and time consuming event for the organization and hundreds of volunteers. The Tightlines For Troops organization is very thankful to their continued sponsors and donors but this event could use even more monetary support to ensure it will continue for years to come.
