Early Saturday, February 22, 2020, Maninder Singh (01/12/1989 – 02/22/2020), a clerk was shot with a semiautomatic handgun and died at the scene during a robbery at a 7-Eleven store in Whittier, California. Despite complying with the gunman’s orders of opening the cash register drawer and handing over money, for “unknown reasons the suspect fired the handgun, killing the clerk,” according to a police statement.

Maninder Singh was a hardworking individual trying to support his lower-middleclass family. Singh is survived by his wife, daughter (6), son (4) and his elderly parents. He was the only son of his parents and struggled daily to make ends meet . Singh’s father was recently involved in a road crash accident in India, which resulted in both of his legs being severely injured. If not operated on immediately, Singh’s father may require amputation.

This fund has been established to help in Maninder Singh’s elderly father’s operation, his kids' educational endeavors, and any other unforeseen expenses. Khalsa Care Foundation, a nonprofit corporation, will be the beneficiary of all funds raised through this campaign. The president of Khalsa Care Foundation is Gurdip Malik.  The franchisee of the 7-Eleven store mentioned above is also an active volunteer at Khalsa Care Foundation. Maninder Singh's family is supportive of the nonprofit and approves this fund.

NOTE: Another fund has been organized by Harpreet Guraya in Sacramento, California to help send Maninder Singh’s body back to India for viewing.
