My name is Vidyuth Sreenivasan. I am a director at Tasara Textiles and Design Studio Pvt Limited, a company registered in India. We work with artisans hidden in the textile value chain. My mother, PR Chandra, began this work as a solo entrepreneur and a single mother combining her love for crafts and her need to earn a living while looking after two young children. It has been my honour to work with her and the artisans who partner with us.
We provide fair wages, design inputs and sustain regular incomes for artisans who partner with us by selling these products at www.chaani.in
Most of our artisans work from their homes, and struggle to access capital that would help them expand.
Mani, a highly skilled block printer with over five decades of experience is one of the artisans in a network of self-employed crafts persons who partner with Tasara Textiles and Design Studio. At 65, Mani can no longer access credit from formal financial institutions. Like many artisans, Mani works from home, a space that serves as a shared living space for his family that includes his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. A space that's now bursting at the seams.
To accommodate his growing family and maintain his livelihood, he needs US$ 1000 to build a workshop dedicated to block printing on his rooftop- a move that will give his growing family more living space.
By contributing to this campaign, you will:
Empower Mani: Help him build a safe and productive workspace, allowing him to continue his craft with dignity and comfort.
Support a Family: Provide Mani and his family with a more spacious and comfortable living environment.
Preserve a Tradition: Contribute to the preservation of India's rich block printing heritage by supporting a master artisan.
Exclusive Rewards:
We will show our appreciation for contributions above US$ 50 by sending you a unique, hand-block printed stole designed by us at Tasara Textiles and Design Studio, printed by Mani himself.
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference.
Let's help Mani build a brighter future for himself and his family while celebrating the enduring beauty of Indian block printing.
