Manhattan Kids' Mount Fuji Charity Climb

As many of you know, at the end of last year our family moved from Manhattan to London, which was particularly hard for Koko and Connie as they moved to New York when they were very little and it was most definitely their home.  London was just a place to visit once a year, much like Tokyo . What made it harder was moving back to London in mid December and emerging out of quarantine straight into a full-on lockdown. While it was not an easy way to relocate, with help from a lot of lovely friends, old and new, we are settling back into London life.
<First day at the new school in London>

Before we properly settle in September (new jobs, new schools, acquiring a puppy), we have decided to go to Japan for 3 months, using Mansur's gardening leave between jobs.  We know it's a privilege to travel in this COVID era and we want to make the most of it, making this trip more meaningful than simply visiting Sawako's home country.

<Mount Fuji>

Koko and Connie are truly Manhattan kids and were used to mostly flat terrain (typical incline 3.3%). Even running up Primrose Hill in our London neighbourhood (6.5%) doesn't happen without a healthy degree of moaning.  So.......WE DECIDED TO CLIMB MOUNT FUJI (9.9% incline!!!), both to explore the outer limits of their moaning capability and for a good cause.

<Training hard on Primrose Hill...>

When they were living in the US the girls ran a lemonade stand to raise money for an animal shelter near Woodstock in upstate New York (where we used to spend a good part of our summers) and they would like to raise money again for neglected animals, so have chosen to donate any money they raise to the RSPCA.

<Even made an appearance on the animal shelter's facebook page!>

I have no idea how many Lockdown dogs will end up being Lockdown refugees as the country returns to normal, but I am sure the RSPCA will be one of the safety nets for those that are.

We have managed to arrive in Japan.  After 7 hours at the airport, followed by 3 days in a government quarantine hotel, we are now back at Sawako's family home for the rest of our quarantine. On a clear day, we see Mt. Fuji from the street.  Eyes on the prize!
