This past year for Manny has been harder than anyone could ever imagine. Just 11 months after losing his father in a tragic accident, Manny was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on May 20th, 2015. This came as a shock to him and everyone around him.
Ever since he was little Manny has been an avid tennis player and fan. During his senior year at Hopkins High School and multiple tennis state tournament appearances, Manny committed to play tennis at Case Western University in Ohio. Shortly after graduating high school Manny unexpectedly lost his father due to an accident at work. Manny was strong through the whole summer and left for college in August. At college he started his undergrad engineering studies, and trained for tennis. After completing his first year at college he noticed that he just wasn't feeling right. He was constantly fatigued and started losing his appetite. After a couple minor fainting spells he decided that he should go to the doctor just to see if everything was ok. After a blood test, his doctor told him that he need to be immediately transported to North Memorial hospital. On May 20th, at North Memorial, he was admitted to the ICU where they ran multiple blood tests and diagnosed Manny with Leukemia. He spent two days in the ICU and was given multiple blood transfusions before he was transported the University of Minnesota's Amplatz Children's Hospital. After a bone marrow test the doctors found that Manny's blood was 98% cancerous and that he needed to start chemotherapy right away. Manny spent a week at Amplatz to start his first two treatments, and was well enough to be sent home after.
Manny will have to undergo 28 days of intense chemotherapy to kill all cancerous cells in his body. With the amazing support from his mother Silvia, brother Charlie, and all of his friends and family, the doctors say Manny should be cancer free in just one month! After the first month, they will start to taper off treatments until he completes his treatment in three and a half years. Manny is unable to return to school this fall due to his weakened immune system but hopes to go back to school and complete his degree in engineering when the doctors allow him to.
Manny and his family need all the support he can get! So please help us raise some money to help with his treatment. Any amount is a huge help, and even if you can't donate, any words of encouragement are amazing! Thank you so much!
