Hi, my name is Jodie, and I am a close friend of Mandy and Peter Griffiths. I am organising this fundraiser on their behalf and for their benefit, with their full knowledge, permission, and gratitude.
Mandy and Pete’s Story
In 2020, just 12 months after getting married, Mandy was diagnosed with stage 2 bowel cancer. What should have been the beginning of a long life together became the start of a fight for survival. After surgery and precautionary chemotherapy, Mandy and Pete were told the cancer was gone. They dared to hope life could return to normal.
But only months later, everything changed.
One night, Mandy was suddenly bent over in excruciating pain. Tests revealed their worst nightmare: the cancer had spread through her small and large bowel, uterus, and ovaries. Her diagnosis was now stage 4 cancer.
Mandy underwent an enormous, life-threatening surgery, with doctors warning she may not survive. There was even a chance they would have to close her up without being able to help.
But Mandy fought, and she survived.
With the extraordinary support of her team, she recovered from surgery, endured further treatment, and somehow found the strength to return to work and keep living as fully as she could — supported every step of the way by her incredible family and friends.
In 2021, Mandy was told she was unlikely to reach her 40th birthday on 3 August 2027.
Most people would have crumbled under that news.
Mandy did the opposite.
Since then, she has faced every setback with courage, humour, grit, and grace. She has fought for every extra day, every milestone, and every memory. But in late 2024, her health declined significantly. More chemotherapy followed. More radiotherapy. More pain. Eventually, she was forced to stop working and focus all of her energy on simply getting through each day.
More recently, Pete and Mandy received the devastating news that the focus of treatment has now shifted from trying to beat the cancer to preserving comfort and quality of life.
Today, Mandy lives with daily pain injections, pain patches, and around 20 medications just to manage pain, sleep, and basic functioning.
And yet, she keeps fighting.
Throughout all of this, Pete has continued working while also caring for Mandy. But they have now reached a point where time together matters more than anything.
The emotional toll has been immense — and so has the financial strain.
Years of medical expenses, medications, travel, mortgage repayments, and everyday living costs have taken their toll. Mandy also has specialised nutritional and hydration needs, which, until recently, were costing around $1,000 per month on Hydralyte alone.
Like so many families facing terminal illness, they have carried these pressures quietly for as long as they could.
Now, we are asking for help.
This fundraiser has been created to support Mandy and her husband, Pete. All funds raised will be transferred directly to Pete, who will use them to help cover ongoing medical costs, household expenses, and the additional care needs Mandy now requires. Most importantly, this support will allow Pete to step back from work where needed and spend more precious time with Mandy — creating memories, sharing moments of joy, and making the most of the time they have together.
No amount is too small, and every contribution will make a meaningful difference.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page with others would mean the world.
Thank you for helping Mandy and Pete hold onto the moments that matter most.
All the money raised will be donated through this page and deposited into Peter’s account to support Mandy’s care, their household expenses, and day-to-day activities
