In the beginning of March, our dear friend Mandi had emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor. The tumor was successfully removed, but there were complications and several follow-on surgeries. Mandi experienced considerable brain trauma.

Mandi is a surgical technician and birth worker. She has dedicated herself over the years to saving and improving the lives of others. She is a loyal friend and a dedicated mother, an adventurous force, and a hilarious conversationalist. She has harnessed an incredible passion and determination to live a good life on her own terms. She shines a light for everyone around her and makes friends easily; Mandi is cherished by those close to her.

Since the surgery, Mandi has been recovering in the hospital and at a rehabilitation facility. She has carried through with her luminous spirit and honest humor in this difficult period. Mandi is looking forward to regaining her independence and working in the future. Mandi's cognitive abilities continue to improve but the road to healing has been slow and is ongoing. While she has excellent long-term recall, Mandi's short-term memory is still very limited.

There was damage to adjacent brain tissue during the surgeries and some of Mandi's bodily processes are not functioning normally. She will continue to require regular labs and lifestyle adjustments to maintain hydration and nutrient balances in her body. But Mandi is mobile and physically capable; last month she walked on the beach and the Mesa steps. Mandi is looking forward to resuming her normal activities and active life.

In the immediate term, Mandi requires 24-hour supervision and assistance. To get the care and help she requires while moving into a more comfortable and independent living situation, Mandi is planning to move in with her mother and daughter at the house in Santa Barbara where she has lived for years. The goal is for this transition to begin early in August.
