One Mom’s Story - Way Too Young For A Stroke

Donation protected
On March 18th, 2022, Manali suffered a stroke.

She’s 27.

Before I ask you for a dollar or two, let me tell you about Manali. This girl is fire. A smart, sharp-as-a-tack girl with her whole life ahead of her. When I first met my then 20-year-old cousin in India, I thought. “Wow. I can’t wait to see where life takes her.”

Life brought her to Houston, Texas to get married, start a family, pursue a career - you know, just live her life like we’re all trying to do. A new Mom to 14-month-old Ivaan - the light of her world. We were literally just having normal Mom conversations the other day - you know, “are you following @takingcarababies and @biglittlefeelings”, nailing down sleep schedules, oo-ing and ah-ing over our babies and the cutest thing they did that day, trying to implement “gentle parenting” while our old-school parents thought we were crazy. And then this.

In Medical Terms: Manali suffered a large left intracranial stroke and hemorrhage, which caused herniation on March 18th, 2022. This created massive swelling in her brain. She underwent a craniectomy which removes a part of the skull so her brain can swell outwards instead of putting pressure on her spine and nerves. She is breathing 100% without any issue with a trach collar. All her organs are functioning as they should without any medical help. She has a fungal and bacterial infection in the brain. She did have a pneumothorax (one lung collapsed and it healed itself). There is very little brain activity.

In Layman’s Term: See Image Below. She had a surgery Monday, May 2nd, to wash away bacterial and fungal infection in the brain. Next step will be seeing how she does without the external drain that is draining the fluid from her brain. Human body naturally drains this fluid in the body.

We’re reaching out asking for whatever you can give, money or information (every little bit counts!!) to help pay for medical bills and accommodate this new life. If you have insight on other programs we can reach out to or have personal experience that may provide new insight on her situation, let us know. We are seeking proper guidance and advice on what steps to take next.

Please give your babies and loved ones an extra squeeze tonight, because you actually, physically can. Sorry - I don’t want to be a downer, Manali would never want me to pull on your sympathies or make you feel bad about this. She’d give you a big Mana smile that only Manali could and tell you in her way, “Maaja Aavse” which means “We’ll have a fun time."

Thank you for your donations, information and prayers.

P.S. Please pass this along and share it within your friend groups and social communities. Thank you! #Manali
