Aloha,
My name is Sarina from Haiku, Maui, and I am fundraising on behalf of the Ah Hee and Ah Puck 'Ohanas, that have lost everything and their homes, in the wildfires that have devasted Lāhainā. The photo you see above, is of Manaiakalani and Zayden, two best friends and neighbors who grew up together playing afterschool, on weekends and any chance they had, to reuniting for the first time after the fire at what was left of their playground.
On August 8th, Ariel Ah Hee who is a nurse in our community, her husband Mau Ah Hee a Lifeguard who's family has lived in Lāhainā for generations, and their 2 sons, had to evacuate their home narrowly escaping the fire as it took over their neighborhood.
Ravin Ah Puck a heavy equipment mechanic, Shelby Uwekoolani who is currently pregnant and lost her job to the fire, and their 2 sons, were met with the same terrifying news that their neighborhood was on fire and that they only had moments to escape. They are a born and raised long time Lāhainā family who have been displaced with immense loss that goes beyond their home, job, and schools for their sons, but are now also having to navigate life after the fire while preparing for their 3rd child on the way and trying to keep their family afloat.
Lāhainā was engulfed in flames in a matter of minutes, and their entire town and community were gone, leaving both of these families and their children with nothing but the clothes and shoes they were wearing that day.
Anyone who knows them, knows that they are the most generous, kind, and caring people who are the first to give the shirt off of their backs for others. While they are struggling themselves and trying to make sense of the tragedy that they are going through, they are still out volunteering on the front lines supporting the community and other families who were also affected, those are the kind of people that they are.
They have a very long road to recovery ahead of them, rebuilding their homes, lives, jobs, and so much more that was taken from them. If you can, please consider donating to help these families through the most difficult time of their lives.
I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to hear their stories, and offering any support that you are able to send their way.
