Managing Wombats & Rabbits: Tools for better management
Donation protected
Foundation for Rabbit-Free Australia is an environmental charity dedicated to landscapes free of the notorious pest, wild European rabbits.
It's hard to manage what you cant measure. We want to help a university research project find ways to cost-effectively measure the distribution of the 'near threatened' southern hairy-nosed wombat and wild rabbits on the Nullarbor Plain, to improve the management of both and the health of the environment.
Rabbits can disrupt whole ecosystems. Their impacts on the environment are a concern for wombat management but there is little empirical information available to guide managers. This project will help fill that void.
It will integrate remote sensing data, ecological models, behavioural analysis, and field validation to assess the impact of rabbit and wombat populations on the environment and guide future monitoring and the management of both species. We need $8,560 to support the project.
