Help those who support Kevin Gidley

Kevin Gidley (KG) suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury July 23, 2017 from a car accident. July 24, 2017 Kevin underwent a craniotomy to relieve the pressure from his brain. 3 weeks from the surgery Kevin was at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. He was talking at a whisper, walking with help by being hooked up to cables that came down from the ceiling, showering and shaving himself with help. He had his sense of humor.
August 31, 2017 Kevin suffered a setback. He went back to the hospital for surgery to rule out an infection from his craniotomy incision. There he stayed at the hospital for 3 more months taking 2 steps back and 1 step forward.
In November, a few weeks after placing Kevin’s frontal plate back in, Kevin was fully retracted with little help being done in the hospital. His arms and hands were retracted and curled up to his chest. His feet and toes were stuck in a pointed down position and were stiff. The doctor told Kevin’s family it was a wait and see situation. It could take months or even years for a full recovery. Kevin’s doctor decided to send him to a skilled nursing home to wait until he regained some strength for an acute rehab place (Shirley Ryan). The doctor believed he would receive more rehab at the skilled nursing home than he was getting in the hospital.

It’s coming up on a year from KG’s Traumatic Brain Injury. Now the family is again in need of your help. Kevin’s insurance stopped all rehab January 29, 2018. His family and a few friends have been there every day giving him what therapy they could. In January they asked his care facility if he could have private therapy. They were told to wait until Medicaid kicked in. May 29, 2018 he was accepted for Medicaid, though were then informed Medicaid won’t allow therapy in a skilled nursing home. With the family having to pay for therapy, transportation, and other necessities on their own, it costs $55 for every 15 minutes of therapy. They chose to give him 30 minutes of Physical Therapy 5 days a week, 30 minutes of Occupational Therapy 3 days a week, and 15 minutes of Speech 3 days a week. They’re paying $1,045 per week. The first few weeks of therapy were possible through the generous donation of a friend. They would love to increase Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy to 5 days a week and even increase his Speech Therapy to 30 minutes a day totaling $1,650 a week. They’re hoping to give Kevin the chance to build up his strength so he can go back to Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago.
They recently rented a van with a lift for his wheelchair. They saw how much being home helped him progress. They would love to be able to bring Kevin home for a few hours a day on weekends. The weekend special at that time was $240.

All donations no matter what the size will be greatly appreciated. Please give what you can. Share this fundraiser with everyone you know. The more people that see this the more help Kevin and his family will receive. God Bless.
