On June 29th Craig was struck by lightning on Logan Martin Lake. He spent eight days at UAB where he was treated for nerve damage, muscle damage, loss of hearing in his left ear, and partial loss of hearing in his right ear. Thankfully, none of his organs were injured; however, the injuries he did sustain are complex and ongoing. He is unable to work while his medical team works to identify which medications will best address and control his nerve and muscle injuries long-term. In May, just a couple months prior to this incident, Craig graduated from Jefferson State Community College with his AAS in Welding Technology. He graduated on a Friday and started work full time the following Monday as a Welder. On June 29th, his short-lived career came to a (hopefully temporary) halt and that has been devastating to him. His medical team remains confident he will make a full recovery, but no one knows how long it will take his nerves and muscles to heal to the point where he is not balled up in pain sporadically throughout the day and night.

There were many people who suggested starting a Go Fund Me when all this first took place. Craig originally declined to have one setup on his behalf and only wished to share his story publicly for the purpose of sharing his faith. CBS 42 quoted him, “If there’s anybody out there who hasn’t gotten a real message from God, a real awakening, to take this as you know your time to realize that Jesus is real,” Morris said. “I just think that you should give him a chance if you haven’t already.” While he still wants to make sure that he uses his miracle as a platform to share his faith with anyone he can reach, the reality that he will be out of work for longer than he expected has set in. He has been out of work for 3 weeks now, with at least another month to go before he will be released to drive and work again.
