GoFundMe wants me to tell you my story. They want me to provide a solid explanation and story for why I have dragged you all here to ask for your help. I shall do my best to do just that.
This is a story about fat.
As many of you know I am fat. I have been my entire life. I feel I should start by saying do not hate my fat. It has kept me warm in the winter, made me an excellent hugger, kept me safe, provided a cozy spot for babies to lay their heads when they're sleepy, given me a soft face people trust, and it has helped create in me some of my very favorite things about myself. My sense of humor, my compassion, my over abundance of empathy, etc.
I would not be who I am without my fat and I do not regret having had it, but it is time for it to go.
For every one thing I like about my fat there are 10 things I don't. My extra pounds have caused me to miss out on SO much life while freely giving me grief, sorrow, shame, pain, weakness, illness, and now, at the tender age of 35, I'm ready to say they need to kick rocks.
I have found an amazing surgeon who is going to start me on my way. Her name is Dr. Charlotte Hodges and she is going to gastric bypass the bejesus out of my digestive tract to give me the biggest tool I'll need to beat back those adipocytes. I love her. I have faith in her. She (and her team) has faith in me.
But, I'm in a bit of a time crunch. I need to get this done in about a month, and, while I have never been so sure in my LIFE that the time is now, I wasn't QUITE expecting it to be, like, NOW now.
This is where you come in, my beloveds.
I'm sure it hasn't skipped your notice that the middle part of this site is "FUND" (for you are all very smart or I wouldn't like you so much) and I imagine you already know what I'm going to ask.
Dr Hodges and her team alone are going to cost me $1500 after insurance. They were not able to provide me the cost of the hospital stay or the anesthesiologist** and suspect that I'll hit my out of pocket maximum before they are factored in, so they may not cost much of anything at all (FINGERS CROSSED). I have three more major (translate: expensive) tests I need to go through, so that will effect the overall total as well.
I'm going to have to take at least a week of work unpaid before short term disability kicks in (my vacation time can't cover much) and I have to load up on pre and post surgical meds, vitamins, and protein powders to help with my roughly 6 weeks of liquid diet which is why I set my goal at a bit more than the initial $1500.
I hate asking for donations, I certainly don't expect them, and I COMPLETELY understand if you cannot or do not want to contribute, but I have to give it a shot. A dear friend of mine taught me that you don't know if you don't ask.
