Mami Mercedes’ Road to Recovery

Hi everyone,

I'm Mercedes, and I'm writing this for my mom. If you know us, you know we never ask for help unless we truly need it. Recently, my mom had a bad fall at home and fractured about 50% of her spine. The doctors are still figuring out the best treatment, and while pain meds help a bit, they can only do so much.

I'm setting up this account because the medical bills are overwhelming. Insurance covers some, but we all know how healthcare in America is. My mom is the most selfless person I know. She’s silently battled through so much without ever asking for help. She’s always done her best to make sure we had everything we needed. Now, as her healthcare surrogate and loving daughter, I’m stepping in.

My mom has always opened her home to anyone in need, offering a safe place, food, or just a spot to hang out. Now, she needs a safe place herself. The funds we raise will go towards covering the medical bills, home health care, and making my house more accessible for her. She’s looking at a 3-6 month recovery period with lots of physical therapy and rest.

Since my father passed 15 years ago, I’ve been caring for my mom through all our struggles. Many of you have seen how tough it’s been. Now, with work hours being cut in pharmacies, it's even harder to make ends meet, especially since I need to be home with her.

After 15 years of doing this on my own, I’m reaching out for help. I can't lift her anymore due to my own spinal repair surgery, and the mental and physical exhaustion is overwhelming for both of us. We are in desperate need of a home health aide.
