This mama and her baby were stuck outside in the pouring rain on 02/14 during a statewide downpour, and seeking help from a neighbor. Unfortunately this neighbor was unwilling to help, but she did post about them being on her door step online which caught the attention of many in town. Several people went looking but only baby was located and taken home with me, mom was nowhere to be found.

The next morning, mom was found on the local shelter website, wounded and in critical condition. (See the first image before injury, from the neighbor who turned them away the very rainy night they came seeking vs. just 12 hours later after she was found wounded and taken to the OC Animal Shelter.) It’s evident by looking at her that she was in a fight with a coyote or another dog which is where her wounds on her face came from. She has a broken front limb as well, which is believed to be from being hit by a vehicle. When she was found she was wrapped up in a towel on the side of the road, evidently unable to move.

The worst part of all of this is she’s now on the list for euthanasia and the shelter she is housed at will not offer her the care she needs to recover.

I have made an appointment to visit her on Wednesday and have made it known I want to take her in, and another neighbor in the rescue world has been pulling strings from the inside as well.

The hero here is this mama. She managed to keep her little baby safe from all the dangers of the street, at night and during a rain storm. I have to do my best to give her a chance at life after all of this, and I know so many neighbors are in support of that.

Any help you can offer will go towards saving her from the shelters demise and then immediately after we win that battle, her injuries that need to be mended to restore her back to a strong healthy mama. I look forward to offering a safe, healthy and happy place for them to grow and heal and give them a chance at a life off the street.
