It’s incredibly tough to have to ask for help. Our Mama has stoically been battling GBM (glioblastoma brain cancer) for the past 14 months now. I have created this in hopes of support in her end of life care. So many people have shown up for us out of love in so many ways, and we will not ever to be able to fully express our gratitude.
Mama was doing relatively well until about a month ago, when we found out the 2nd tumor (near her brain stem) had tripled in size. She has lived significantly longer than most people her age who also have the deadliest brain cancer there is. Her beautiful disposition (and never one complaint) has been something awe inspiring and heartbreaking to witness.
As of a couple of weeks ago, our Mother lost her ability to walk, due to the location of her second tumor. My Sister Sara has been breaking her back to lift our Mom from bed to wheelchair, to bathroom etc.. Even if I weren’t almost 6 months pregnant, I don’t know that I would be able to lift her constantly in this manner. It is not sustainable for her to continue to do this 24/7.
On top of the pain of witnessing our Moms body failing her, it is frustrating to share that no in-home nursing care is covered by health insurance until it is time for hospice. We very much need in-home help & have been wiped out financially this past year in not being able to work regularly as we are her sole caregivers. Unfortunately, she did not have savings.
Many loved ones lost a whole lot in the recent fires and I was so moved in how much we were all able to raise for them. My ask is that you share this in the same vigor that we shared those drives, as we could use all the help we can get during this unparalleled time. Thank you in advance..
