Donate to Mama Kay's post surgery recovery

To my treasured community - Amara here. As most of you know, I'm the eldest of Kay's two daughters, both of whom have a fierce and mighty love for their Mama. Six weeks ago, my family and I were blindsided by the diagnosis of my mother's bilateral breast cancer; a cancer she had successfully beat 26 years ago with radiation treatment alone.

As a single, retired woman working part-time, my mother's first question to me after her diagnosis was "...how am I going to afford this?" …and it gutted me. It genuinely breaks my heart that this is the number one question for most Americans facing any life-saving medical procedures or treatments, and in that moment, I made a promise to my mama that if she focused her radiant Spirit and Light on her healing first, we would figure out the rest.

Our Mama Kay has since had a life-saving surgery, received negative results in her BRCA genetic breast cancer tests (hurray!), and gradually over the weeks, her post-surgery healing and pain has increasingly lessened. We are currently waiting for her final lymph node pathology test to confirm whether or not she will require chemotherapy and we're all feeling very optimistic. She is truly a force of nature!! Pending chemo, Mama Kay's next step in recovery is restoring her range of motion in her back, arms and shoulder muscles through physical therapy.

I have been so touched by the outpouring of love and the countless friends, incredible collaborators in my film/commercial industry, as well as family members who have continued to ask how they can support me, my mama and our family during this time. We were lucky that insurance paid for a large portion of the surgery, oncology, and lab fees, and between myself, my mom, and her beautiful co-workers, we've also paid as much of the non-covered expenses out of pocket as we can afford.

My mother’s generosity of spirit, compassion and tenderness has impacted so many lives. If you feel called to bless her during her recovery, any amount you're able to contribute is so very appreciated by me and my family. 100% of donations are going directly to her remaining surgery, oncology and lab fees.

There have truly been so many blessings and tender mercies bestowed upon me and my family during my mom's diagnosis, and we continue to feel genuinely humbled in our collective gratitude. Thank you all for your goodness and love over the past few weeks!
