I’m Lucía Flórez, Documentary Filmmaker, and I’m about to embark on a very personal journey in the creation of my new film: "Mamá". As I'm reaching the age my mom was when she had me, I'm deciding to make a film about the mother-daughter relationship in this adult stage of life.



The film will explore the new conceptions of motherhood in young women living in the Sacred Valley, Cusco, Perú – my home country. The communities around this area are indigenous from the Andes and practice very traditional rituals around childbirth. I´ll be following a young woman through the last month of her pregnancy, getting ready to give birth.

This project touches very personal membrane since it’s also the research investigation of my mother, a professional psychoanalyst. Accompanying her through this journey will also allow deepening our own personal mother-daughter relationship as she herself studies evolving motherhood. 


This personal documentary will explore the mother-daughter relationship from an inside perspective, offering a referential story on how this complicated dynamic evolves through women's lives. I’m  also personally very excited about this movie, because it could be an interesting platform to highlight the role of the Andean woman, which for generations has been silenced, and exploring the mysticism behind it in a very beautiful location.



In order to see this project come to light, I'm asking for your help!
With your donations I will be able to cover the production costs of flying the crew to the Sacred Valley in Peru and being able to rent the necessary equipment to produce the documentary.

Mi nombre es Lucía Flórez y soy Documentalista independiente. Estoy a punto de embarcarme en un viaje súper personal en la creación de mi siguiente documental titulado tentativamente: Mamá.  Al acercarme a la edad que mi mamá tenía cuando me tuvo, estoy decidiendo hacer una película acerca de la relación madre-hija en este etapa de la vida adulta.

La pieza va a explorar las nuevas concepciones de la maternidad en la cultura Andina en el Valle Sagrado de Cusco, Perú. Las comunidades de esta zona son muy tradicionales y practican rituales alrededor del embarazo y el parto. Yo estaré siguiendo a una pareja en su último mes de embarazo hacia el nacimiento de su hijo como una excusa para ahondar en mi propia relación madre-hija.

 Este proyecto toca membrana muy personal porque también es la investigación de mi mamá, que es psicoanalista profesional. Acompañándola a ella a través de este viaje, nos permititrá reconectar con nuestro pasado y entendernos fuera de los roles que muchas veces han delimitado nuestra dinámica.

Este documental personal mostrará la relación madre-hija desde una perspectiva interna, ofreciendo una historia referencial de lo compleja que es esta relación. Personalmente estoy muy entusiasmada por este proyecto porque también servirá como plataforma para resaltar un ángulo diferente de la maternidad desde una mirada más tradicional y Andina - que ha sido silenciada durante siglos. Es también una oportunidad para explorar este misticismo en un escenario visualmente impactante.
