Hello Everyone!

This is Elaine, Ravell’s friend & manager. I write this with the heaviest of hearts to share that his sweet mother, Mayra, abruptly passed away earlier this week.

If you don’t already know, Mayra was diagnosed with diabetes, which led to kidney failure and years of dialysis. Most recently, her condition took a turn for the worst and she had to sadly get her leg amputated twice within a week. When we thought we were in the clear, her leg continued to get infections and her infections continued to get infected until her organs eventually started failing. She put up a massive fight until she could no longer handle the pain– and she fought like hell.

I know Richard hasn’t been active lately but he’s been privately enduring all of this on his own. He has stayed committed to his art by creating & releasing music in various hospital lobbies, unsure if he would be able to take his mom back home. I suggested that he should take a break to focus on taking care of his mom solely but his answer was simply, “I owe this to my Mom and everyone who believes in me; I can handle this” And through sleepless nights, he has been– hoping for a different outcome.

We also wanted to take a second to spread awareness of the importance of getting regular physicals and encouraging getting your parents & loved ones checked out as well. We get so caught up in our daily lives and think we’re invincible– until it is too late. We don’t want anyone else to go through what Richard and his family are going through if it’s preventable. After the past few years of uncertainty, we can all agree that health is indeed wealth.

All the treatments, doctor visits, medications, surgeries, etc. have been out of pocket. Now that she’s gained her angel wings, Richard is stuck with hefty, piling bills while facilitating an unexpected funeral. So I ask our community to help alleviate some financial burden for our brother, friend & artist. Let’s help him grieve the way any son should be able to mourn the loss of a parent.
