Malta Avenue Elementary Odyssey of the Mind

It's not your typical school team. There's a roller-skating robot, a banana-selling monkey, a three foot tall bug, a mustachioed narrator, and even a Santa-Frankenstein-Turkey Guy.

 

But their extra creativity was what it took for this group of kids ages 6 to 11 to pick up the second place trophy in their division at the New York State Finals. The team is now raising funds to compete in the World Championship for Odyssey of the Mind this May in Ames, Iowa.

 

Odyssey of the Mind is an international competitive program where teams choose from a list of open-ended problems and solve one of them through a combination of an original theatrical sketch performance and engineering solutions using only low cost or recycled materials.

 

The team members range from first to fifth graders.

Donations are greatly appreciated and will be used to fund travel expenses, shipping team-created props, costumes, and sets, and room and board for the team as they compete with teams from across the country and around the world.
