malpractice that caused my moms brain damage&death

My name is Rachel I am the daughter of Andrea Schneider and I am starting this fundraiser to bring awareness to my moms horrific last moments in a cancer medical center here in Oahu on 9/15/22.Her cancer had been improving but she had went in for her weekly chemo session. My mom informed the doctors and nurses she couldn't breathe as she was finishing up her iv infusion for chemo. She began coughing rapidly. After checking her vitals and seeing her oxygen was dropping rapidly, they gave her a nasal
cannula and tried to suction the secretions coming out of her mouth. She then lost consciousness and stopped breathing. Once she was on the floor, nobody checked her for a pulse and no cpr was given. They just waited for the EMS to arrive. On the 911 call they didn’t initially tell the 911 operator the severity of her condition, all they said was “She is having a reaction to the chemo that’s all we know” when the 911 operator asked her name and DOB they had trouble even knowing that information waisting vital minutes that she wasn’t breathing again not stressing any urgency of the matter. As you know every minute counts when you start to lose oxygen for any chance of recovery. Only at the last second of a almost 3 minute 911 call did they say she was not breathing. They left her on the floor and my poor mom went without oxygen to her brain for over 20 minutes When EMS got to the scene they were the ones who initiated 3 rounds of cpr. Again NO CPR was given prior to the EMS arriving even though the cancer center said she wasn’t breathing at the end of the 911 call . She then was rushed by ambulance to the ICU at Straub and was put on a ventilator. The doctors told us she was in a permanent vegetative state with no brain activity. At the cancer center where this all originally occurred she was given medication that she was allergic to in her IV infusion. She was also given taxol that she clearly started having an adverse reaction to that they had started giving her a few months prior. When they first administered the Taxol she had hives all over her body, every time she was given the Taxol her vision would decrease drastically. We now know the reason her vision was decreasing was because the Taxol was too much on her heart and causing her heart to become extremely weak. She had not gone to chemo for at least a few weeks prior to this visit because of this. When she went to the cancer center she only initially went there to get a referal for an ophthalmologist because she could barely see. They convinced her to get another round, which was the exact opposite of what they should have done, since their were nurses and doctors during her assessment prior they should have seen these signs and decided that at this point it was no longer safe to administer the chemo infusion due to her condition. Taxol is one of the most toxic chemo drugs out there. When you go to a cancer center and your a full code(meaning she was not on a DNR list) you expect the doctors and nurses around you to do everything in their power to save you. You think you're in a safe place. Unfortunately for her she wasn't. I will not let her or her story ever be forgotten. If you can help in any way me and my dad would appreciate it as we are already facing a mount of expenses. We are drowning in debt. Please help. My parents grew their small business at vacuum cleaner center. Passed down from my grandpa since the 50's. She didnt deserve this.
My mom died on October 9th 2022. After being taken off the vent on October 5th and despite the fact was able to breathe on her own. But the ICU doctors said giving her any more fluids and continuing the feeding tube was laboring her breathing causing her to suffer more. She fought her hardest to stay alive, but again had no brain activity and without giving her the fluids/nutrition she took her last breath at 5 pm. She fought so hard to live but sadly didn’t stand a chance with everything that had taken place at the cancer center where this all started. I loved my mom so much and I’m sure some of you that saw her in the vacuum store loved her too because she had such a vibrant and loving nature to everyone. Please donate if you are able to and please keep spreading awareness about her medical malpractice which led to her death. #JusticeForAndrea
