Malouf Twins’ NICU journey
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Kate Auten, and I’ve created this on behalf of the Kelli and Matt Malouf family. Kelli and Matt welcomed their rainbow twins at 29 weeks gestation via emergency c- section on 5/16/24 at Methodist Women’s Hospital in Elkhorn. It was a whirlwind day and very scary as Dax (baby A) was having heart rate issues. Things were stable the first few days, but then Dax started having bouts of SVT (essentially, his heart rate would go way too fast randomly, and this is so stressful to a little body). Dax had to be transferred to Children’s Hospital in Omaha, as they are a level 4 NICU and have the cardiologists there to help him. Now, Kelli and Matt have to split their day between two NICUs to see their babies.
Kelli had a tough pregnancy complicated by multiple hemorrhages from a subchorionic hematoma as well as cervical insufficiency. She had a cervical cerclage placed at 20 weeks and had been on modified bedrest since that time. For this reason, she has been off work since 3/14. She will need to stay off of work to be with her sons as they continue to fight and grow in the NICU- they likely won’t be home in Hastings until August. And even then, Kelli will need to be home for a few weeks to be with her babies at the critical transition to home life. When things are more stable, Matt will leave the Elkhorn/ Omaha area and go back to work during the week and commute back to his family on the weekends.
As a fellow Nicu mom of preemies, I can tell you the expenses a family incurs during this time are far larger than anyone expects. Gas, meals at the hospital, incidentals, various needs as Kelli recovers and as the babies grow…it all adds up. Kelli and Matt are the BEST parents, and their angel babies above are watching over them. If you can, please donate to help them make this time a little less stressful. God bless you all!
