Dear Family and Friends:
As some of you know, my sweet daughter, Mallori, and her husband, Chris, have been experiencing fertility issues for many years and have done everything possible at this point to start a family. Having children is one of their greatest desires, and unfortunately, there are many factors that caused complications for them. Doctors have repeatedly recommended in vitro fertilization (IVF) as a necessary step in this journey. Mallori had surgery over the summer in preparation for fertility treatment, and we are hopeful that IVF will work for them.
Anyone who has had the privilege to know Mallori, hear about her through me, witness on Facebook the awesome services she provides to expecting families through her birth doula business, or who work with her, know how big her heart is and how much she gives to others on a daily basis.
Mallori works as a doula as well as a social worker with an international adoption agency. Because her insurance does not cover IVF, she has been saving most of the money she earns from her doula business to go towards medical expenses and the IVF procedure. Because of the complexity of the treatment and unpredictability with scheduling, Mallori will not be able to provide doula services for 2-3 months or more while undergoing the IVF procedure. In addition to working for NFL Films, Chris works with UberEats delivery to supplement his income and save for medical expenses. With all this being said, Mallori and Chris are doing everything they can to get the needed funds for IVF, but it is just not enough.
The cost of IVF is approximately $28,000, not including the need for additional supports to optimize fertility such as herbal supplements and acupuncture. While Mallori and Chris’s family are providing financial support, they are still short $10,000 of the total amount needed to cover IVF. The good news is that Mallori’s body is in an optimal place to respond well to the next step of IVF, so there is a sense of urgency to move forward with the plan. The full amount must be paid in December before they receive the treatment which is set to begin in January.
I am reaching out to other family members and friends whom I think might want to help and to those who have asked, “What can we do?” If you would like to help with a donation, I would be forever grateful! Any donation is neither too small nor too large. Every dollar helps.
Sincerely,
Lori Ober ( Mallori’s mother)
