Help Maliya become a midwife (2 years in SF CA)

Donation protected
(TLDR at the bottom)

Maliya is an incredible human who has spent her life serving her community. For many years she worked as a preschool teacher nurturing the hearts of little children. A few years ago she left (the very beloved) Sunset Nursery School to serve local families as a birth and postpartum doula. It was in this work she came to realize that supporting birthing families is exactly what she is meant to do. Maliya has now embarked on the journey of becoming a midwife. The world needs more midwives (especially BIPOC midwives) and Maliya is answering the call. She has been in school for close to two years and she is now beginning her apprenticeship. This is a very exciting season for her and it is also a stressful one. Midwifery apprenticeship is an unpaid full-time commitment. Maliya has been funding her education on her own and now she needs our help. Working a full-time apprenticeship while studying does not leave any time to work an additional job in order to pay for living expenses and midwifery school. Maliya has been serving our community for many years and now it’s our chance to give back to her so that she can continue her amazing work.

We are hoping to raise the funds needed to fully support Maliya for two years. Living in the Bay Area this is a big goal, but I know we can do it. Please consider supporting Maliya. Any donation amount is deeply appreciated. If you want to donate, but now is not a good time, we would love for you to check back in when you’re able. These funds will continue to be used for the remainder of Maliya’s apprenticeship, so we do not need to collect all donations immediately. If you’re not able to donate monetarily, please consider sharing this page with your friends, family and anyone else who would be interested in supporting the expansion of midwifery care in our country.

TLDR- Maliya is starting a full-time, unpaid midwifery apprenticeship. Doing this while also continuing her coursework does not leave time to work a paid job. We are raising funds to support her for two years.
