Malissa's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
Hello - my name is Amy and I'm writing this on behalf of my dear friend, Malissa. I've been blessed to work with her over the past five years and our team of coworkers decided we needed to get together to support her in any way we can. So, this is our next effort to help in any way possible.
Malissa has been battling stage 4 cancer for over a year and a half now - cancer that began in her colon but metastisized to her liver - and has continued the fight even through the roughest moments that side effects from chemotherapy brings. Her strength and determination has carried her through so much - continous appointments, numerous chemo sessions, the loss of her hair, adapting to life with a colostomy bag, horrible nausea and the pain of neuropathy. Yet she continues to fight, even at her weakest moments when she's beyond exhausted, she still is always thinking of others and trying her best to be present for everyone else, including her husband, kids, family and friends. She is the strongest, kindest, most thoughtful person I know.
Lately, chemo hasn't been as effective as it once was so she'll soon be undergoing a targeted, focused procedure to spot-treat the cancerous portions of her liver. We certainly hope this procedure is greatly successful as her tumor markers have recently been climbing and surgery hasn't been a viable option. Afterward, her doctors are also advising that she seek additional specialized care at the renowned UT Health - MD Anderson Cancer Center in San Antonio, TX.
Our hope in starting this for Malissa is to raise funds to alleviate some of the stress that comes from having to take time off from work, the expense of treatment and travel, and the time it takes to recuperate. We don't want her to worry over needing to be away - she needs all of her energy and focus to be on resting, recovering and healing. So, any funds donated will go directly to Malissa for medical care, travel expenses and any other costs that need to be met as she continues her fight against cancer.
Thank you so much....
Update: The Y-90 procedure wasn't as effective as we had hoped and she's experiencing more symptoms and issues that are causing a lot of pain, making life more difficult to navigate. We have now set up a meal train, as well, and her mother is with her from Noon-5pm every day.
