I have created the page to assist Malik Miller, an outstanding student-athlete, to raise money to attend an S.T.E.M. (Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics) based summer enrichment program. All proceeds must be raised by July 18, 2016. You can read Malik's story, in his own words, below...
My name is Malik Miller and I am currently a freshman at Dr. Henry H. Wise and have been nominated to represent my school and community at the Mason Game & Technology Academy by Envision (MGTA).
By attending the MGAT, I will join other motivated students from around the country for an experiential (leadership/career exploration) program. This will be a powerful experience, enabling me to interact with respected professionals in various fields while building relationships with students who will be my future colleagues.
Attending this program will enable me to further my interest in the field of Computer Science by developing my program coding and app design skills. I will also receive college credit for attending this course that will give me a headstart in pursuing my college degree. I am the oldest of 2 children by my mother Reon Miller and I maintain a 3.0 GPA, a member of the WISE Football team, Track & Field team, and ROTC. I recently had the pleasure of representing the Spirit of Faith Christian Center Warriors track team in the AAU Junior Olympics for Track & Field as one of the top 50 sprinters in the nation in my age group, in my first year competing in the sport. I've been able to excel on the track, football field, and in the classroom despite being completely visually impaired in one eye. With God's help and the help of my family, I have not and will not allow this disability nor my circumstances to deter me from being successful in my pursuit of my dreams.
Imagine if you had been given this opportunity for a life-changing experience when you were in school and were unable to participate for lack of funds. I've already raised a substantial amount of the total cost of attendance but, I still need to secure my spot with this last fundraising effort. That is why I am currently asking for your help.
