On Friday, May 20, 2022, Malik (my middle child) was involved in a horrible single car accident. As I sat in the trauma ICU waiting room on the phone with his wife who was by his side 4 floors below me in the ER, I listened to him request that they straighten his arms and legs...but they were already straight. He was unable to move anything below his neck on his own accord. He had sustained injuries to his C4 & C5 vertebrae. After 32 days in the trauma ICU, during which he had 3 plates and 6 screws placed in his neck, 2 plates and 4 screws in his jaw, a trach collar and feeding tube, he is now in a spinal rehab facility and facing a LONG road to recovery.

 

Malik had recently started a new job and you know what that means…no coverage. His title was free & clear and he did have insurance on his car, but only liability. To add to it all, he and his wife are expecting a daughter in August.

 

In addition to the medical bills that are climbing daily, he will need a custom wheelchair and work on his home to make accommodations for said wheelchair. He will also need continued therapy once he returns home and a vehicle for transportation. His dad (Steve Holeman, Jr.), bonus mom (Tonya) and I are doing all we can to help, unfortunately it's not quite enough. If you are able to make a donation, we would be eternally grateful!
