The family of Malik Parker is needing your support during the most difficult time of their lives. On February 23, Malik and two others were senselessly gunned down while walking home from a school basketball game.
Malik, who was only 17 years old, embodied the true spirit of a fighter. As a young child, his father began training him in the art of boxing, and his love and passion for the sport never died. Malik remained focused and dedicated in the ring and flourished into an impressive athlete known for his power, jab, durability, and his biggest strength, his heart.
His unwavering commitment to his craft kept him focused in the gym, providing a positive environment away from the gangs, drugs, and violence that far too many young, black men growing up in inner city neighborhoods sadly come to know as a normal way of life. As hard as Malik fought to surround himself with positivity in order to make a better way for himself and family, a coward with a gun has stolen this beautiful soul with the pull of a trigger. With the spirit of a true fighter, Malik held on for almost a month despite his severe injuries. While initially showing slight signs of improvement, this with deepest sadness has proved to overcome.
As the family prepares to say their final goodbyes, they have expressed wanting to fulfill what they believe would be Malik’s final wishes, which is to make it back to his final resting place in New York where his father is from and most of his family resides.
Although Malik lived most of his life in Louisville, he was extremely family-oriented and recently made the decision to move to NY in order to surround himself with family, whom he knew would inspire and continually encourage him to strive for greatness. As Malik came back to Louisville to visit family and friends that week, no one could have ever imagined having to send him back to the place he loved in this way.
As the family deals with the toughest moments of their lives, although I realize no amount of money could make this pain any less severe, I am requesting you find it in your heart to assist me in lessening the burden on this family. Transporting Malik back to NY to be laid to rest in the family plot, along with other final expenses, has been estimated to be between $20-$25K. Any and all donations will be given directly to Malik's parents to cover medical/final expenses as well as to aide in finding those who were responsible for this heinous act. To assist with encouraging those who may have information to come forward, the family would like the ability to offer a substantial reward for the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators. Any amount of support for this family while they grieve the tragic loss of their loved one, would be appreciated more than you know. Thank you in advance for your kindness, support, and prayers.
