Malibu HS 1st Beach Volleyball Team

For the past 8 years, football has been my main sport. During spring of freshman year, I decided to play volleyball for the first time and I immediately felt a connection with the sport. Sophomore year I returned to football in the fall but almost immediately after our season ended, the Woolsey Fire struck Malibu. Many homes burned to the ground, including mine. Some of our football players were affected by the fires and transferred to other schools that had better football programs. My teammates transferring combined with 10 starting senior players graduating made the football program at Malibu High fall apart.

After the fire, I returned to Malibu High not wanting to leave my home school. I’ve lived here and gone to public school here my whole life. I played volleyball again but this time we had a new coach who was very passionate about player improvement. I, along with all of my teammates, improved drastically and I was almost addicted to playing which was something I never felt playing football.

With the collapse of the football team I saw this as an opportunity to start a beach volleyball team at school to replace my fall sport. Only three of our volleyball players were graduating so we still had plenty to start a beach team.

It wasn’t easy. We had to meet with school officials to get permission. But with the help of many others, we were able to start our (club) beach volleyball team. This is the first time Malibu High School has had a beach team. However, for several reasons, the school is not funding our team’s expenses.

We need help to pay for equipment, uniforms, registration and transportation fees, insurance, quality coaching, etc. etc. etc.

Please help me and my team by supporting the start of Malibu High School’s Beach Volleyball program. Thank you.
