Malfunction Junction: cleaning our forests

UPDATE: we did it! 75 volunteers jammed our drop boxes full , collected tons and tons of scrap and helped us remove 25 vehicles into boats from the public plans surrounding the Illinois valley . On top of that we also collected in excess of 350 tires . It was an astounding weekend of trash pulling and community involvement . To say that I'm proud of my town is the understatement of the year . We are already making plans for the next cleanup event and working to sort through the debris left from this last week end . At $8 per tire for disposal we could really use some added support in covering the costs of what we were able to accomplish .

Hey there! The Illinois Valley is coming together in a big way for a massive public lands clean-up event the weekend of May 5th- 7th and we need community donations to make this work.

We have support from the various authorities and local businesses, and we already have over 100 committed volunteers ready to haul out trash, tires, cars and RVs. This is an official Gambler 500 event, and Gambler 500 will bring in more volunteers (in their amazing cars!) and be providing support to cover our disposal cost. Currently, we have four 30 yard drop boxes reserved.

This is our big chance to make a big difference and we need your help!

Our goal for the weekend is to yard out as many RVs and cars as we can and take them to their forever home at the scrap yard. We know we can’t get it all in one weekend, and the current goal for now is to remove at least 15 vehicles and to focus on 27 identified dump sites to cram those four 30-yard drop boxes full to the brim with forest trash.

If you’ve gone up any of the forest roads lately, you know what we are up against. Tires, appliances, RVs and metric tons of solid waste are strewn about our beautiful valley. We have some of the most beautiful and botanically diverse forest lands in the entire world and we need everyone’s help to get them in better shape.
