Malcom family NICU journey

Hello everyone, my name is Rhyelle Malcom.. I usually do not do things like this at all but right now we are going through another unexpected heartbreaking situation causing my husband and me especially to be away from work, and me be at the hospital for I don’t know how long at this moment. I found out on 2/26/25 at my ultrasound appointment that our baby boy (only 23 weeks) may be coming earlier than expected due to some unexpected complications that were too late to catch in time. My cervix just completely thinned out and is gone causing the bag to bulge and amniotic fluid to slowly leak now. Leading to possible early pre term labor now. The doctors and nurses are doing everything to stop labor and keep the baby in as long as possible. However, I will be on bed rest at the hospital until I give birth at this point. It could be days, weeks, or a month. Our baby boy is holding on strong, he’s a fighter and he stands a chance to survive outside of the womb! We are staying hopeful and praying. This is going to be a long journey and recovery at this moment but we are praying for only good news and positive outcomes right now. Having lost our first born at 22 weeks, and having 2 successful pregnancies after that, we thought we would never ever experience this heartbreak again. Right now everything is a lot to process and take in. We were completely unprepared of course. Any amount helps us at this moment. If you cannot give anything towards helping us keep up with the expenses to cover for this upcoming NICU stay we are preparing for, such as gas to travel back and forth to be with our baby or meals/groceries at this time, and to also stay caught up on upcoming bills, we just ask for prayers! We truly need prayers and support!!

UPDATE:

As of May 12th, 2025, our son is still in the NICU. He is improving and making progress. He had his ups and downs throughout his first month to now.

He’s been in the NICU 73 days now. He is FINALLY weighing a little over 2lbs now!

Aasiahs first 2 months of life were rough. Aasiah had CPR 2 times (the first time took almost an hour to get his heart rate and oxygen back up, and the 2nd time took almost 5 mins), he had 2 chest tubes put in, pneumothorax, respiratory issues, his right lung collapsed multiple times, his kidneys and liver showed signs of failure around the time he was 4 weeks old (no longer showing signs of failure now), heart PDA, a brain bleed, he had a blood infection, sepsis, other bacterial infections, multiple blood and platelet transfusions, was reintubated 5 times, had to get 4 different picc lines put in within his first month of life, chronic lung disease, he had pericardial effusion, he had a perforated abdominal viscus, had air leaks in his belly, had to be on 5 different types of ventilators (nitric, jet, VDR, Servo/Nava, regular vent)…. Now he may possibly be needing a major surgery on his intestine area because of the perforations and blockages. The doctors are waiting until he gets a little bigger to handle it so we are praying he continues to stay stable so he can grow and be very stable for surgery. That could be next month so we most likely won’t be leaving around what his original due date day was (June 23rd).

The doctors gave my son a 10%-20% chance to survive once he’s born right before going back for my c-section to have him and now he’s thriving at almost 2 1/2 months old.

We are still on this NICU journey but I know my son will continue to improve and he will be home soon. Please keep praying for him. Nothing is impossible for God.
