Malcolm's Cross Britain Way

I am walking across Britain on the Cross Britain Way from Boston in Lincolnshire to Barmouth in Wales. It is 280 miles and will be quite a challenge! I will be starting on 30th April and aim to finish by 22nd May 2022. As well as giving myself a bit of exercise, I am raising money for  The Avenue School, Brent where my daughter, Jess, works. The Avenue School is a partner school with the Manor School and part of the same charity. However, all money raised here will be earmarked for the Avenue School.

 

The Avenue is an amazing school that provides specialist teaching for pupils with Autism and complex learning difficulties and where everyone is committed to championing unique potential, providing the most effective education, therapy, support, and provision for all its pupils.

All learning is individualised to each pupil and designed to be motivating, fun, engaging and centred around their interests. All the pupils need particular help to develop their communication skills to be happy, safe and enjoy relationships with others as they get older.

 

The staff and pupils have recently moved on to a new school site and now have a fantastic building where the pupils will be able to continue their education until the age of 19. However, it is really important that they have the right resources to engage pupils and motivate them to learn. I will be fundraising for some high-tech sensory equipment to kit out their new immersion sensory room. It will create a fantastic space full of exciting equipment that will support engagement, learning, and communication. This equipment will help pupils explore their bodies and emotions, engage with their surroundings and peers, and potentially decrease levels of anxiety, distress, and agitation leading to increased happiness and relaxation.
