Help Malaya Recover from Spine Surgery
Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
Our beautiful, smart, loving Malaya is having her spine surgery on Wednesday, August 17, at the Children's Hospital in Oakland. We've created this GoFundMe to help with Malaya’s medical and recovery expenses and to give Ritzeen (her mom) some breathing room to take time off work and care for Malaya post-surgery.
ABOUT MALAYA
Malaya is 14 years old and is currently a freshman at San Leandro High. Broadcasting is her favorite subject. She also loves STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). She recently got 3rd place on her project from SMASH (Summer Math and Science Honors), a 3-year scholarship program at UC Berkeley. She created an app that measures air quality. She's a Senior Girl Scout in her 8th year. Malaya loves to play volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and tennis. She loves anime books and shows. She wants to be a kinesiologist when she grows up. She can make mean ube crinkle cookies.
MALAYA’S SCOLIOSIS
In December 2020, Malaya was diagnosed with scoliosis. Her original S curve was 19°/54°/47°. Since then, Malaya and her family have researched, considered, and tried many options to avoid surgery: chiropractic, PT, brace, alternative therapy. However, because Malaya is still growing, her curvature got worse to 21°/60°/51°. Anything over 20° curvature requires surgery. So Malaya has decided to go thru with the surgery.
THE SURGERY
It will last 8 hours, involve 18 screws, 9 rods, 2 orthopedic surgeons, 1 neurosurgeon, 1 anesthesiologist, and many amazing nurses. Recovery will take at least 9 months. She can’t even do physical therapy until after the 6th month. She will miss the first part of 10th grade and will be homeschooled.
Malaya is strong and her family is resilient but as you can imagine, recovery will be a long road so any financial support we can give them will be truly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
GREEN AND WHITE LIGHT ON SURGERY DAY (AUG 17)
Whether or not you can donate financially, we ask that on Wednesday, August 17, you imagine green light on Malaya, white light on everyone in the surgery room, and the doctors saying how pleased they are at how the surgery is going and how awesome Malaya is doing.
A SUGGESTED PRAYER ON SURGERY DAY (AUG 17)
“May all hospital staff be cleared of stress and all outside stress.
May all rooms be cleared of entities and beings that are not with the light. Guide them away from the hospital grounds. Relocate them to their most appropriate place.
May all the materials used and the medications and substances that enter Malaya’s body be calibrated to be perfectly aligned and brought into sympathetic resonance with her and her body (physical, spiritual, emotional).
May Malaya’s angels clear out the residual anxieties and fears in and around the hospital – all unconscious mess be transported.
May Malaya have so much happiness and joy that she has renewed mobility and strength.
May Malaya’s mind be able to come to inner serenity and peace knowing that she is divinely supported and calibrated, across space and time and on a spirit-soul level.
May all beings in the hospital, her family, and community so benefit.”
Thank you so much for your love and support.
