Malawi Kitchen Project in Mkanda, Africa

Donation protected
Thank you for visiting my page. I'm going with my friend Lisa Colety and her daughter Taylor, along with a few of their friends to Mkanda Village in Malawi, Africa this summer.  They are partnering with the Malawian locals and the Live Love Malawi Non-Profit Organization to help them build a "dream" kitchen for the women of the village. I will be going along with these ladies to document their journey in an effort to spread awareness. These ladies have been working hard to raise the money to fund the kitchen and I am happy to say they have raised their goal amount!

My goal is that by documenting this kitchen build, that others will be inspired to help neighboring villages be blessed with a kitchen also.

BACKGROUND:
Malawi is ranked the 3rd poorest country in the world.  More than half of the 17 million people live on less than $1.90 a day.  60% of the children are deprived of basic needs, 70% in rural areas!  Many families don't know where their next meal will come from or if it will come at all.  So many children go hungry and suffer from severe malnutrition.

Women and girls experience a high risk of gender violence.  Most women don’t own land and are less privileged in terms of education. They are considered to be child bearers and home keepers. Girls are twice as likely to drop out of school because they need to help with household work, such as fetching water or collecting firewood often miles away.  A lot of girls get married at a very early stage because they are forced to do so. This has brought a lot of challenges in the welfare of the women thereby leading to poverty.

EMPOWERING MALAWIAN WOMEN TO FEED THEIR COMMUNITY:
Despite all the challenges, Malawians are resilient and the women of Mkanda village are striving to build a kitchen that can help feed their families, nourish their children, and provide a source of income. We want to fund this dream and help build their kitchen for the women and village of Mkanda in Malawi.  In partnership with the Live Love Malawi nonprofit, a "Cookery" project has been initiated to teach the women how to maximize the use of this kitchen to not just cook meals for their families but to also use it as a source of revenue to sell the food and goods that they can prepare in the kitchen. It may seem small, but it will make a huge impact. It’s a way of letting women stand on their own and nourish their children. Help empower the women, and in turn empower the families, their community and generations to come.

**Please JOIN US and turn this DREAM into a REALITY**

YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL CHANGE LIVES:
It will take $10,200 US dollars to build and stock the kitchen in Mkanda Village.  dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation has graciously offered to match funding up to $5,100, but ONLY UNTIL February 1, 2019. I am happy to report that they have raised those funds and reached their goal!!

If you can't give at this time, please share this Go Fund Me page with your friends and family.  Help spread the word and let's help the women and children of Malawi!!

The funds that have been collected will go directly to Live Love Malawi for material and equipment for the kitchen, and anything above will help defray our travel expenses. We are not traveling with a church or large organization.  This is a small, locally led project, resulting from the manifested dream of the women in Mkanda village, and made possible by Kris Flecken who has visited the area twice and felt the need to do more.

Your DONATION & the GIFT of a kitchen will help WOMEN:
·      Improving their welfare to stand on their own
·      Improving their economy on their daily living
·      Improving the welfare of the homes with basic needs
·      Supporting them to start small scale businesses
·      Supporting them to send their children to school
·      Paying for their hospital bills

THERE'S MORE!
In addition to building the kitchen, their goal is to bring sustainable menstrual hygiene kits to the young woman of Mkanda, and educate them on the basics of the female reproductive system.  We are currently working with Days for Girls Las Vegas Chapter to get all the necessary items made and assembled.
