We are reaching out to seek your generous support to help 3-year-old Malachi Wheeler, who is currently battling an incredibly rare and aggressive form of brain cancer called Sarcoma. Despite the unimaginable challenges he’s faced in his short life, Malachi continues to show the world the true meaning of resilience. We are launching this fundraising campaign to alleviate the financial burden on his family as they navigate his medical care and fight to provide Malachi with the best possible chance at recovery.
Background Story
Malachi’s journey has been nothing short of heroic. From the moment he came into the world, life presented him with challenges that most of us could never imagine. As an infant, Malachi endured severe trauma—he was shaken, which resulted in a severe brain bleed, swelling in his head, hemorrhaging eyes, and several broken ribs. The doctors gave little hope for his survival, but against all odds, Malachi made a miraculous full recovery.
Through sheer determination, Malachi overcame developmental obstacles, learning to walk and balance despite suffering falls and setbacks. His joyful spirit, courage, and perseverance became an inspiration to everyone who knew him.
However, the challenges resurfaced this year when what initially appeared to be a simple pink eye turned into a much more severe condition. For two months, Malachi’s eye continued to worsen, despite being prescribed eye drops. His mother, trusting her instincts, sought an eye specialist’s opinion. The ophthalmologist noticed swelling in Malachi’s optic nerve, which is often a sign of fluid buildup in the brain. This discovery led to a whirlwind of tests and hospital visits.
Malachi’s journey took a heartbreaking turn when scans revealed excessive pressure on his brain, making it appear like a “skate ramp.” Surgery was quickly scheduled to drain the fluid, but the fluid was too thick, described as honey-like, making the procedure extremely difficult. Shortly after, a more extensive surgery was necessary—a craniotomy. During this procedure, doctors found tumors wrapped around blood vessels. What was initially suspected to be leukemia was later diagnosed as a rare form of Primary Intracranial Sarcoma Dicer-1 of the brain.
Current Situation
The tumors are intertwined with Malachi’s blood vessels, rendering them inoperable without risking severe bleeding. During one attempt to remove the tumors, doctors had to “zap” the vessels to stop the bleeding, which temporarily affected Malachi’s ability to use the bathroom and perform simple tasks.
After enduring multiple surgeries, Malachi’s recovery was extremely difficult. His face swelled so severely that his eyes were swollen shut, leaving him confused and scared. Yet, despite all this pain, Malachi continued to show his bright spirit—smiling, playing, and spreading joy to those around him.
Sadly, Malachi’s condition worsened again, leading to an emergency operation to aspirate fluid buildup caused by tumors blocking proper drainage. Doctors now believe chemotherapy is the next step, despite their lack of experience with this rare cancer. Malachi and his family are facing an uncertain journey ahead, filled with challenging treatments and long hospital stays.
Why We Need Your Help
This journey has taken a tremendous emotional, physical, and financial toll on Malachi’s family. They are devoted to providing him with every resource he needs to overcome this illness, but the costs associated with treatments, hospital stays, and follow-up care are overwhelming.
Your monetary donations will go directly toward:
•Medical expenses not covered by insurance, including chemotherapy, surgeries, medications, and specialized treatments.
•Travel expenses for hospital visits and potential consultations with specialists who may have experience treating rare forms of pediatric sarcoma.
•Living expenses to support Malachi’s family as they take time off work to care for him full-time.
•Basic necessities like food, clothing, and other essentials to ensure Malachi has comfort and security during his recovery.
