Malachi Orion Ericksen

Malachi Orion Ericksen was born on May 18, 2018 at 11:19 am. Measuring 21 inches long and weighing 6 lbs and 15 oz. To this day, he has not seen the sunlight, opened his eyes, or been held by his mother and father.
Malachi was born with CDH, also known as a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia.

In the diagram above,  you can see the obvious complications that come with this birth defect. Malachi does not have full lung capacity. His lungs have not fully formed because the rest of his organs were forced from their normal positions within the chest cavity to make room for the hernia.  His breathing, at this time, is done completely by machine, in small controlled bursts.

This tiny infant is not only on breathing machines, he is on several different medications to help his immune system, development and growth plus the addition of calcium, and other numerous things we take for granted. Because of all of the medications he has to have to survive, his blood has to be filtered through a dialysis machine, and he's on Ecmo to help him continue on this path to full-functionality and not put any more stress on his heart and lung.

But he still fights. Holding his hand, his fingers will wrap around yours. His soul isn't done yet.. And we haven't given up.

The treatment plan for something like this, though may seem simple, actually comes with lots of complications. One surgery has been attempted, in which is body did not respond well. Malachi flat-lined on the table, and they had to shock his heart to get him back. Since then, his numbers have been ever-changing. He has his good days, so good that the doctors plan on another surgery to fix the hernia and speed up his recovery. But days before the scheduled date, his numbers crash. Which has caused a tremendous amount of heartache and anxiety for his parents.

Malachi's family has come from all over, Hawaii, Oregon, Nevada to see him, pray for him.  Holding his little hand, inquire about the life he's going to lead should he make it through the next several weeks or months.

At this rate, Malachi may not be strong enough for another surgery probably not until he's several months older. His parents, at this time, are residents at a charity house, but we are not sure how much longer that is going to last.

This campaign is for help; plain and simple. Help with the housing, food and relocation of the family of four while their son goes through this trying time.

No family should have to endure this; it seems to hit a little harder when it's yours.

No parent should have to endure the thought of losing a child. With the constant mix of changing numbers, uncertain future, and impending surgery, this family needs at least the idea of funding this to be taken off the table.

Mark 10:
Truly; I say to you, who ever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.

Luke 3: 4-6

As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,
"The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
'Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight.
Every valley shall be filled,
and every mountain and hill shall be made low,
and the crooked shall become straight,
ad the rough places shall become level ways,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God."
