2004 Boxing Day Tsunami -20th Anniversary Appeal
We feel compelled to mark this anniversary by giving back to Thailand in memory of Lisa May. She lost her life that day along with over 200,000 others. The Thai people helped so many in distress despite their own losses and grief at that time.
LMF continues to help those in need all over the world and our support to Thailand has been seen on many occasions, such as giving replacement fishing boats, school uniforms to children, food parcels and more. This year we want to give a lifeline to even more children.
The children who need our help are orphans at The Home and Life Orphanage in Phang Nga. These children have no family, no fancy home or any of the luxuries we are all used to take for granted.
The orphanage is in need of new and extra dormitory beds, bedding and educational materials and we would love to give them some extra treats too.
This year, we are honoured to have partnered with the UK India Charitable Trust (UKICT), who are match funding this project with us to double the impact of your donations.
Mahesh and Rick from UKICT have already visited the children to find out what will make the biggest impact. Some small treats have already been donated, but we want to ask for your support to mark the anniversary by giving these children some lasting gifts. Making basic improvements to the home will give a huge boost to the everyday lives of the children, who are living in a very challenging environment. As the rest of us look to buy gifts to make our loved ones smile on Christmas Day, please do think of children who are not expecting wrapped gifts under the tree.
They will not receive a mobile phone, designer clothes, or a ticket to a concert.
The gift you can give them will last longer than any batteries in the toys we give our children this year. Imagine the impact the following could have…
- A bed to sleep on with a mattress (we need at least 30)
- Access to clean drinking water via water coolers
- Extra water bottles and drinking cups to collect water in
- Money to fund a mini bus trip to find a new place to explore
- A trip out to buy a burger and a real “Coke” with their friends
- Flip flops to run around in
- School books to write in
- Colouring books and pencils
- Treats for the snack jars
These gifts will make the children smile, and give them the feeling of knowing someone cares. It will give them the basic start to life that most of us take for granted.
Any money you give will make an impact on the lives of these young children and you will be making waves of change 20 years on from the Boxing Day Tsunami in Thailand.
Thank you in advance for your continued support we appreciate every penny donated and it will be match funded by UKICT.
All Funds will go to the Lisa May Foundation.
