Dear friends, supporters and curieuze neus,
Whether you have been with us since the beginning or are just discovering TOP FLOOR Festival now, we are happy you are here.
Five years would not have been possible without the many visible and invisible hands that sustain it. Together, we are building another horizontal floor for people to gather, move and rock on TOP.
Born from an urge of keeping collective dance happening, and decentralise spaces where it can exist, the festival grows in a spirit for spontaneity of movement, autonomy and inclusivity.
TOP FLOOR is a yearly gathering focused on movement, dance and performing arts, as a space for practice, training, discussion, exchange, sparkle for professional, amateurs, lovers and a wide open public range.
We never settled into a monochrome thematic program. Each edition is packed with an arsenal of emotions and fully inspired by the cracks and frictions of the city, bringing diverse crafted performances and workshops into a moving cartography of Brussels. Encouraged by the sparkling, fierce dynamic of this city, we wish to thrive within it, with sensitive ears and eyes to what is heart-opening among the performing arts scene in Brussels.
We aim to diversify the playhouse for performing arts. This year we continue our collaboration with Studio Thor, opening their doors to the festival for the second time, and we add to it the collab with studio INFINI théatre.
We have also applied for new funding from Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles and COCOF. Last year was the first edition supported by subsidies, which made possible to engage in ethical remuneration for artists, technicians, photographers, videast and to properly value their work. However, ´till the day we remain with uncertainty about these fundings response.
Nevertheless we stay committed to DIY culture as our path to conspire new perspectives on what is legit; as we´ve done since the year 1, the collaboration with occupied building and autonomous artists association has been key to picture the path of possibles and embrace a future; keeping the pay-what-you-can formular is our main goal to bring accesibility and openess of the festival, through this circular model we are able to support a large part of our cost.
Year after year, with all its uncertainties, joys, failures and new beginnings, this time and space is shaped by five artist on their own -organisers : Elise Ludinard, Dunya Narli, Victoria Kennett, Lauréline Bombaert, Julia Farber. We spend the year watching performances, meeting artists, writing grant applications, visiting buildings, imagining communication, building partnerships and mobilizing volunteers to make the festival happen.
Thanks to the support of FWB, as coproducer, Studio Thor; sponsor, Stefan Celis, and the pay-what-you-can contributions we are able to pay the performers under artists contracts and cover part of our core costs. But by today, counting on these resources is fragile, since we stay in the uncertainty of certain confirmations. In any case, it will not cover everything needed to host a fair, accessible and sustainable festival.
This is why we are launching this fundraising campaign with a goal of 10000€! (yes, that´s right!)
---- Where does the money go ?
On the expenses side of our overall budget:
- 33% go to performances : artist fees, rights and proper working conditions
- 24 % to technique and media : Fees for the technical crew, photographer, videast, graphic designer
- 22% to coordination : preparation, administration, curatorial work, communication, organization, logistic and team care
- 21% to production costs : space rental, transport, materials, groceries, SABAM
On the income side, the festival is currently supported by :
- 40,50% from the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (to be confirmed)
- 13,50% from Studio Thor (coproduction and space)
- 28,40% from the benefit party and festival incomes (entrance, bar, workshops, food)
- 17,60% from fundraising – that is where you come in.
Your contribution is the part that allows us to stay aligned with our values, pay people properly and keep the festival accessible to diverse audiences.
By supporting this campaign you help sustain a living, collective process. It supports emerging and fearless artists in dance and performance to experiment, take risks and meet audiences in Brussels. It keeps a pay-what-you-can, DIY, decentralized festival alive in a city where cultural spaces are precarious.
Whether you give 2€, 5€, 20€ or more, your gesture makes a real difference.
Share the campaign with your friends, invite them to join, and come dance with us at the next edition of TOP FLOOR Festival.
We believe in this embodied knowledge to be revealing, gathering, healing, shifting, liberating; and everyone should be able to enhance their learning and research on it. We welcome all audiences and artists, carriers of the cultural blossoming of Brussels, to join us for a week of celebration and empowerment.
See you from 26/06/2026 - 01/07/2026 at STUDIO THOR and INFINI Theatre
