Making the unfamiliar, more familiar

What is a Familiarisation Video?
A familiarisation video is a detailed virtual tour of a venue or public space that focuses on the overall environment, facilities and accessibility.
The idea is to help people to prepare and familiarise themselves before visiting somewhere new or unfamiliar.
Different environments can trigger unwanted thoughts and behaviours for different people. So, the opportunity to view these environments before a visit can help to desensitize to the surroundings, assessing what barriers need to be overcome, reducing anxiety, embarrassment, disappointment and limiting stress.
Who will benefit?
Familiarisation Videos will benefit everyone who wants to find out more information about a venue, before they attend. Especially people who live with varying disabilities, including those with hidden disabilities and illnesses, mental health or neurological conditions, and anyone else living with a condition that makes visiting new places difficult, as well as carers, families and friends.
What are we raising money for?
The funds will be used for equipment that is needed to create the familiarisation video and to cover overheads of the filming process. Any additional funds will be used to create a bursary fund for charities and organisations to access if they are unable to meet the cost of creating a video.
When?
We are aiming to be up and running within the next 4 months, but the sooner we can get the fund we need to launch, the sooner we can begin making the world more accessible to all.
Thank you for your support!
Having support from the general community and the wider public would mean a great deal to us as a team. The concept of our social enterprise has come from personal lived experience of barriers when visiting somewhere new and unfamiliar.
We can empathise with the anxiety, embarrassment and disappointment that is felt when faced with accessibility barriers. The support we receive will help us limit the distress that is felt by making the world more accessible and inclusive through the process of making familiarisation videos.
This project is very close to our hearts and with your support we will be able to change the lives of people who experience barriers every day of their lives. With your help we can make the world more accessible and we would be eternally grateful for any donation that we receive.
There are other ways you can support us too!
Follow us on social media, like, share and comment to help spread the word of the work we are doing. Thank you again!
