Hi everyone,

I've been offered the opportunity to join Jim Mcneill in his project Ice Warrior's latest flagship expedition as part of the team (#Lastpole). We will be traveling to Northern Pole of Inaccessibility, the furthest point from land on the Artic Ocean. As well as being the last true polar first, on route we will be collecting vital scientific data to help us understand the effect humanity is having on our world.

This will include for example:

1. Counting and measuring Polar bears (or Polar Bear Twitching as Jim calls it)

2. Measuring the depth and age of sea ice.

3. Measuring Pollution levels in one of the worlds last 'pristine' enviroments.

The Arctic and other extreme environments are the fastest changing regions of our planet. Changes here serve as early warning markers of climate change as well as measures of the effectiveness of the ways we try to combat it. If we are to understand, predict and ultimately mitgate the worst effects of climate change and pollution we need better data for our models. Data that can really only be collected on site in the region itself.

As such the Last Pole Expedition will collect data along a 800 mile transect of the Arctic and I've signed up to use what skills I have to help along a minimum of a 20 day quater leg of that journey. Jim has undertaken to train 28 people up to the level of competent Polar explorer and I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to learn from him and then help help pass these skills on to others.

I am and have already put my own money towards this, your donations will go further towards contributing to fund the expedition and helping to purchase the specialist equipment required for both the science and to keep us alive!
